Family days out in London this weekend
This weekend is set to be a lovely, sunny one here in London. Make the most of the beginning of British summer time with our selection of great day out ideas for families in the capital:
A lovely event for families to get involved in, pack up a picnic this weekend and head to London’s newest park, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, between 12pm and 4pm.
The huge community lunch will offer free fun activities for all the family, with music, games, face painting and more. What better way to get to know your family London mums, at a fab event that won’t break the bank.
Visit one of London’s city farms
A fun and cheap day out for kids when the sun is shining, why not pop along to a city farm. Some of our favourites are Hackney City Farm and Kentish Town City Farm; offering weekend workshops and an under-5s activity room. Other alternatives include Spitalfield’s City Farm on Brick Lane, and Vauxhall City Farm, complete with riding school and allotment!
A good one to wear out the kids ready for early bed time, head to this fun event in Southbank at 3pm on Sunday when the sun’s rays have all got too much!
DJ Monski Mouse gets your little dancers grooving at this under-fives family disco. Nursery rhymes, classic pop songs and retro dance tunes should make for an energetic afternoon. Nearest tube is Waterloo. Take a look at the website for more details.
Sunset Safari is a new event at London Zoo this summer, letting visitors make the most of long, warm evenings. Talks and animal feeding sessions will teach your kids a little more about our furry friends. Entertainment includes acoustic guitar performance at the safari base camp, performances at the Zoo’s theatre of life, and a world food market for a variety of tasty treats.
Boating in Hyde Park
Another park-based suggestion, but a sunny day in London is the perfect opportunity to make the most of the beautiful green spaces that the city offers. For a special family treat make like a tourist and hire a rowing boat for an hour on the Serpentine lake, and take in the park’s beautiful views. If your kids love the water, you could even head over to the Hyde Park lido for a dip.
